Meet Dr. Sherronda Banks
I’m Dr. Sherronda Banks, DSW, LCSW, LISW-CP—a social work educator, clinical therapist, speaker, entrepreneur, mentor, and advocate with more than 22 years of experience across mental health, child welfare, education, and community engagement. I create spaces where healing is practical, leadership is intentional, and people are equipped to move forward without abandoning themselves in the process.
I serve as a Lecturer, Practicum Education Coordinator, Advisor, and Child Welfare Collaborative Coordinator in the School of Social Work at UNC Charlotte. I am also the Founder and Clinical Director of Intentional Steps Counseling Services, PLLC, a growing group practice providing therapy, clinical supervision, workshops, and community-based programming.
My work centers resilience, culturally responsive practice, first-generation college students, historically marginalized communities, women’s empowerment, clinical supervision, leadership development, and self-care as an ethical responsibility. I am also the creator of Radical Preservation™, a framework that helps people protect their peace, preserve their energy, practice intentional rest, and pursue purpose with boundaries.
I earned my Doctor of Social Work from Simmons University, Master of Social Work from Norfolk State University, and Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Old Dominion University. I am licensed in North Carolina and Virginia as an LCSW and in South Carolina as an LISW-CP.
Speaking, Training & Leadership
My work extends beyond the classroom and therapy room. I lead keynotes, workshops, trainings, and facilitated experiences that connect healing, leadership, and sustainable growth.
Signature Topics
• Radical Preservation™, resilience, and ethical self-care
• Mental health, culturally responsive practice, and community engagement
• Clinical supervision, social work education, and leadership development
Each experience is practical, engaging, and grounded in real-world application.
Beyond the Work
I am the proud mother of two young adults, Jamya and Jermaine. Watching them grow into grounded, purpose-driven leaders reminds me that resilience is generational and leadership is legacy. My commitment to helping others heal, lead, and rise begins with honoring the people I love and preserving what matters most.
Purpose. Healing. Leadership.
Across every role I hold, my work is rooted in helping people move forward with clarity, courage, and intention—without abandoning themselves in the process.
