Get to know Dr. Sherronda

I’m Dr. Sherronda Banks, LCSW, LISW-CP—a clinical therapist, educator, speaker, and visionary founder of Intentional Steps Counseling Services, PLLC. With over 22 years of experience in social work, mental health, and higher education, I specialize in creating spaces that are not just supportive—but transformational.

I help individuals, institutions, and communities heal, grow, and lead through culturally responsive, faith-informed, and clinically grounded strategies. My work is rooted in radical care, equity, and intentionality, and I bring that energy into every therapy session, classroom, keynote stage, and consultation room I step into.

In the Clinical Space

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in both North Carolina and Virginia and a Licensed Independent Social Worker Clinical Practice in South Carolina, I provide therapy that meets people where they are—real, relevant, and rooted in faith. I specialize in working with BIPOC individuals and families navigating trauma, identity, anxiety, mood disorders, ADHD, and life transitions. I also offer clinical supervision and consultation for social workers and organizations committed to healing and cultural accountability.

Through Intentional Steps, I’ve cultivated a space where mental health care is sacred and strategic—with services offered via self-pay, private insurance, EAP contracts, and professional training opportunities in:

  • QPR Suicide Prevention

  • UPenn Resilience Skills

  • Radical Preservation™, my signature self-care and sustainability model

In the Academic Space

I serve as a Lecturer and Practicum Education Coordinator at UNC Charlotte’s School of Social Work, where I teach undergraduate and graduate students how to show up in the field with knowledge, cultural humility, and courage. I specialize in developing innovative curriculum centered on:

  • School social work

  • Resilience beyond buzzword

  • Simulation-based learning and strengths-based supervision

My capstone work, Resiliency Reimagined, focuses on first-generation, first-year college students, providing culturally responsive orientation training to support success and sustainability across intersecting identities.

Expanding the Brand: Author & Entrepreneur

I'm also an upcoming author, currently working on a book project that weaves together my lived experience, clinical wisdom, and faith to guide women—especially Black women—toward reclaiming their resilience and power.

Coming soon: Intentional Steps™ merchandise, including affirmation wear, branded journals, and healing-centered resources for the journey. Because healing isn't just a process—it's a lifestyle.

In the Speaking, Training & Leadership Space

Whether I’m standing at the front of a church, school auditorium, conference hall, or virtual platform—my voice amplifies healing, power, and purpose. I lead keynotes, trainings, and workshops that equip individuals and teams with practical, faith-informed, and culturally aware tools for change. Some of my signature topics include:

  • Empowering Youth Mental Health: Practical Strategies, Skills, & Faith Community Engagement

  • Reclaiming Resilience™: Empowering Superwomen to Soar Beyond Balance

  • Radical Preservation™: Redefining Self-Care for Real Life and Liberation

  • Empowering Mothers: A Monthly Event Series for Healing, Community, and Growth

These offerings are more than lectures—they're experiences that inspire action, transformation, and restoration.

And Most of All... I’m a Mother

I’m the proud mother of two brilliant young adults. My daughter Jamya is a senior at Winston-Salem State University, and my son Jermaine is a freshman at North Carolina A&T State University. Watching them become grounded, purpose-driven leaders reminds me daily that resilience is generational and leadership is legacy.

They are my “why.” My work in this world is about helping others rise—but it begins with raising and honoring the ones I love.

If you're looking for a clinically grounded, faith-informed, culturally responsive voice—whether for therapy, training, teaching, or speaking—I’m here to walk with you, intentionally.
